What is the difference between adaptions/accommodations vs. modification?
The biggest difference being simple changes or altogether different.
Adaptions/Accommodations are usually seen listed on a student's Individual Education Program (IEP) or 504. Some examples: less answers to choose from, a scribe, test in an alternate location, and/or tests read aloud. The instructional delivery does not change.
Modifications are utilized when instructional delivery and/or expectations are changed to meet student academic and/or social needs.
Why should we adapt?
Educators should adapt instruction, environments, activities, materials, and so much more for one simple reason - to reach each child where they are. Every student learns a little differently from their peers. In today's world, we all adapt to learn and work effectively and efficiently.
