Maroa-Forsyth School District's Board of Education announced Monday evening that they have voted unanimously to hire Mr. Adam Ibbotson as the new Superintendent of the Maroa-Forsyth School CUSD#2 starting July 1, 2024.
Mr. Adam Ibbotson has worked in the education field for more than 20 years, currently serving as the principal at Sherman Elementary School as a part of the Williamsville CUSD#15.
The announcement follows after the board completed a search involving the community key stakeholders, and current school teacher and building leadership to hire for this vital leadership role for the district.
Board President Lindsey Wise stated, "I am extremely pleased, on behalf of the Board of Education, to welcome Adam Ibbotson and his family to our community and serve as our new superintendent. The amount of school administrative leadership and educational experience our district will have certainly puts us in a great place going into the next academic year. I also want to thank our co-interim superintendents, Dr. Jeff Holmes and Leo Johnson for their service over the past year as our interim-superintendents." Even though Ibbotson's contract does not start until July, Ibbotson plans to meet with key stakeholders and members of the community in the coming months to get acclimated to the position.
Upon completing his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University, Ibbotson began his teaching career as a chemistry teacher at Olney East Richland in 2000 and was there until 2005 when his family moved to Central Illinois. He began his work in Central Illinois teaching chemistry and physical science for one year at Glenwood High School in Chatham. In 2006, he began working in the Williamsville-Sherman district teaching 8th grade U.S. History. He later returned to teaching high school chemistry and physics courses within that district. Beginning in 2015, Adam transitioned to administrative roles within the district. He worked as the educational specialist in grades 5-12 and junior high assistant principal. Later he served the district as director of educational services K-12 and as the assistant principal at both Sherman Elementary and Williamsville Junior High School. In 2019, he became the principal at Sherman Elementary School where he currently serves. During his time as a teacher and administrator, he has also served as a football coach, track coach, and scholastic bowl sponsor.
Mr. Ibbotson has aided in K-12 curriculum alignment, implemented district processes for RTI, facilitated district wide community engagement meetings regarding a successful school facility referendum, as well as district level responsibilities for Title grants and other state and federal grant programs at Williamsville CUSD#15.
He holds a bachelor's degree in middle level education, master's degree in natural sciences with a concentration in chemistry, and a master's in educational leadership from Eastern Illinois University. He completed a postgraduate certificate from Illinois State University for school superintendent as well.
In his personal life, Adam grew up on a farm in Southeastern Illinois where he graduated high school from Edwards County High School in Albion, IL. He met his wife, Kate, at Eastern Illinois University and they have two children: Claire and Charlie. Claire is a sophomore education major at Evangel University in Springfield, MO, and Charlie is a junior at Williamsville High School.
